Come along and learn all about quilting. The session will start with a short talk about quilting and some of the different options available using both hand and machine techniques.
We will then be making a coaster with some quick big stitch hand quilting then neatening the edges by using a quilt binding technique which does not need a sewing machine or any special equipment. As well as being fun to do and making a mat which is perfect to sit a plant pot on from inexpensive material, this workshop is ideal if you have been making patchwork but are a little unsure with what to do next.
About the Tutor:
Elizabeth Betts is a Hove based textile creative and the author of The Beginners Guide to Quilting and the Modern Quilt Bible. As well as writing, technical editing for other craft authors and editing a patchwork magazine in her varied work career, she has taught in lots of different places, from museums and libraries to parks and pubs.
Her work has its grounding in historical techniques but adapted to fit into a modern lifestyle. With many years of teaching quilting behind her she still gets a thrill when someone who says they cannot sew or was criticised when at school leaves her workshop saying they enjoyed it and had a good time.
